RADIOAMATEURS, WHAT A STRANGE PEOPLE.
Radioamateurs site for everybody, even if only curious of those strange people who subtract time to sleep, to other hobbies and, sometimes, to their family too, in order to work at radio, to receive a QSL, to participate in a Contest, to contact some other strange people, they don't want to be likely to meet. These people are seen, sometimes with admiration and sometimes with pity and, often they are accused of crimes, as television interferences, thunderbolt’s fall, troubles to music or amplifier installations, damages to electrical household appliances. Despite that, these strange people continue to spend hours and hours in front of their devices, talking in a strange English, saying funny words and writing calls, times, numbers and so on, on a book they call Log.
There is something crazy about that, but everywhere there are millions of them, who study and practice telegraphy for a long time in order to pass an examination just to get the radio operator licence. They need also to install their station at home, to ask for an authorization, to pay something and to wait for about a year.
How can the radio induce people of every age, race, religion and latitude to do that?
Pope PIO XI , inaugurating the Vatican Radio (12/02/1931), said:

SPATIA  DEVINCO,  DISIUNCTA  CONIUNGO

That’s RADIO, a sort of feelings and satisfactions we can’t get from any other means of communication. "Navigating" in Internet is far away from navigation, it seems to be more as going on a train because information run on something like railway. Internet is only useful.
The planet RADIO is something else and we live on this planet, we are RADIOAMATEURS.

LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF GUGLIELMO MARCONI.

In 1919 Guglielmo Marconi bought the ship "ROVENSKA",800 t.,and called it "ELETTRA" which became his navigating laboratory. He made important researches and experiments, such as the first studies on microwaves, on radio-waves propagation, on solar activity and so on. In 1937, when he realized his health was precarious, became afraid of the destiny of his ship. Mister M.Marzari in his article, " La nave dei miracoli " ( The ship of miracles ), wrote everything about the story and the end of the ship "ELETTRA". It’s interesting, sometimes attracting, but it makes everybody think.

Uccellino EIAR      On October 6th, 1924, the first program (in Italy) of broadcasting was made from Rome, exactly from Auditorium in via Maria Cristina 5.  So it was proved that the RADIO could have been also entertainment.
The exclusivity of the State on radio diffusions was established on November, 08 1924, with the possibility to be administered by private societies.  The first concession was given on December 1924 for a period of 6 years to the society U.R.I. (Unione Radiofonica Italiana). It was immediately necessary to have a new adjustment of rules and laws. In 1928 a second concession for a period of 25 years was given the society named itself  E.I.A.R. (Ente Italiano Audizioni Radiofoniche) and had to renovate all the installations and update all the programs.
Since 1932 the signal of pause between programs has been the twittering of a bird. In the photo you can see the mechanism which generated the sound, used later also by R.A.I. (Radio Audizioni Italia), now Italian Radio television.

the home of the local Club of the A.R.I.
On this tower, to leave from 1930, G. Marconi made
to install the station, from he planned and visible in the photo to right, said FARO MARCONI  (beacon).
Identical station was installed also to S. Margherita Ligure.
The scientist had planned also a system of radio guidance
to edge of the Elettra and, with the darkened wheelhouse,
he gave test of as it was possible to be annoying and to
enter in port with the only help of the radio beacons.
The length of wave was of 63 cm.

A submarine of Regia Marina Italiana (Royal
Italian Navy) was entitled to Guglielmo Marconi.
This submarine disappeared during a mission in
the 2nd mondial war in October 1941.
The ship (see photo) was named Guglielmo Marconi
in honour of the previous submarine.
In 1960 the study on an atomic submarine started
in Italy, but, after the decision of Italy to
discard nuclear devices, the project stopped.
In every case the atomic submarine would have
 been entitled to Guglielmo Marconi.

When I look at the Moon, I think that the man landed and walked there and I realize that such a venture would have never been in any mind without the radio.  (Mimma)
Neil Armstrong, after he walked first on the moon, said "For a man this is a small step, but for the humanity it’s a gigantic one". Guglielmo Marconi, hearing the legendary gun shot, could have said the same words.  (Ubaldo)

EXAMINATIONS TO RECEIVE A RADIOAMATEUR LICENSE
It’s much better to attend a course in one of the clubs of A.R.I., Associazione Radioamatori Italiani. This associaton is member of the I.A.R.U., International Amateur Radio Union and is Moral Entity from 1950 with D.P.R. 368.  If you like to know the closer ARI club, you can write to:
A.R.I.
Via Domenico Scarlatti 31
20124 MILANO

or call  0039/02/6692192 or visit the web sit of A.R.I. or IK4NYY web site. Once you found the location of the closer club, you can go there to receive some more informations. Lot of clubs have free of charges courses, some of them ask for some fee as contribution, in all of them you can know personally and meet other radioamateurs.
